The Islamic New Year of 2024 in Morocco began on the evening of July 8. The Islamic New Year, known as Hijri, is a notable public holiday. Although it is widely observed, not many Moroccans celebrate it with much fanfare compared to the Western Gregorian calendar festivities. Moreover, many older and more traditional Moroccans neither celebrate nor acknowledge the standard 31st December celebration. This event is relatively more popular among the younger generation Moroccans who have adopted it from tourists, expats, and relatives living abroad.
Yennayer – The Amazigh New Year
Morocco will celebrate Yennayer, the Amazigh New Year, on January 12, 2024. Yennayer is characterized by distinctive customs, traditional music and cuisine.
King Mohammed VI has instructed that the Amazigh New Year be added to the list of national holidays in Morocco.
In a statement from the Royal Court, Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has sanctioned the recognition of the Amazigh New Year as an officially recognised national holiday.
This decision demonstrates the king’s dedication to the Berber language, which is an essential component of Morocco’s genuine identity and a common resource for all Moroccans, as stated in the announcement.

Kabana rooftop food and cocktails restaurant is among the trendiest eateries in Marrakech. If you are in the mood for dinner, dance, and live music, then dress nicely and head to Épicurien. Épicurien is a blend of chic and glamour: a restaurant and a modern ultra lounge. A live band will start after midnight and before you will have plenty of other entertainment. BE AGAFAY CAMP
Be Agafay has just moved to the Agafay Desert! is sublime, super Instagrammable with lots of photo opportunities. The camp offers lunch and dinner with access to the pool.
At Be Agafay, the food is very different from other camps, the food is very well prepared and just excellent!
We really liked Be Agafay’s swimming pool with its original shape and jacuzzi.
Beware: there are very few beds around the pool, so space is limited. Reservations are required.
The Agafay desert is 1 hour’s drive from Marrakech and access to the camp is difficult. We don’t recommend going there by your own means unless you have a 4×4.
Important information about the Be Agafay camp:
– Opening hours for the pool pass with lunch: 11:30 – 18:30. Lunch includes a starter, main course or dessert.
– Times for dinner only: 18:00 – 22:00. Dinner includes starter, main course and dessert. Dinner does not include use of the pool.
– Times for private sundowner aperitifs in the valley with dinner: 18:00 – 22:00. Dinner includes starter, main course and dessert.
– We recommend you book our driver service at 700 DH (70€) as the road is difficult to access.
